BBC Radio 2 is the UK’s most popular radio station with weekly reach of 13.7 million listeners, who tune-in for an average of 12 hours a week (RAJAR Q310). BBC Radio 2 are looking to commission a new network-wide imaging package.

The brief

Our ambition is to create a strong, distinctive and dynamic package that, overall, reflects the full range of our programmes; from classical to pop, jazz to blues and news and live music. The sound should be rich and anthemic and use real instrumentation to best effect. We are looking for modern production used in today’s music blended seamlessly with a variety of musical genres and eras. The package will also need to feature a range of group and solo vocals, all of which can stand-up to the artists we play.

It is anticipated the full package will consist of;
– 1 x News
– 1 x Travel Bed and Tag
– 20 x Image Ramps (approx 20 seconds duration)
– 5 x Christmas IDs (approx 10 seconds duration)

To be considered for this project, companies/individuals need to compile an audio CD or mp3 of demo idents for;
1. BBC Radio 2 News In
2. Ken Bruce Show Open
3. Mike Harding Folk and Roots Show Open

Each ident should be pitched 2 ways; first using the existing BBC Radio 2 sonic logo, second using a new sonic logo of your own composition for “BBC Radio 2”. If you wish to evolve the existing logo, they will also accept these additional versions in your pitch.

Some pointers from the brief:
– It is highly recommended that you listen to the Ken Bruce and Mike Harding programmes and reflect their presentation and musical styles in your pitch.
– The News In should be instrumental.
– Each show open ident should feature vocals.
– Whilst we don’t expect to hear real instrumentation at the demo stage, we do expect to hear vocals which best reflect what your company can provide.
– We’re looking for a rich and anthemic sound.
– The composition should observe the individual feature/programme/genre but retain a uniform feel

Pitches will be accepted for this project until 5pm February 11th 2011. It would be helpful if you could send notification of your intention to pitch in advance to christopher.reay@bbc.co.uk.

For further information visit the BBC Radio 2 Comissioning page or contact Chris Reay (Senior Producer, Station Sound at BBC Radio 2).

London, September 28, 2010 – Wise Buddah is delighted to announce that it is has been chosen to provide the jingles and production elements for the new Smooth Radio national Network.

After a hotly contested pitch process, Wise Buddah was selected from amongst 12 of the world’s leading jingle producers – from the UK, Europe and the U.S.A.

Wise Buddah’s winning pitch jingles will go straight to air and the package will be expanded over the next three months. The new sound of Smooth Radio will feature 12 custom themes along with a top of hour sequence for news travel and weather as well as talk over beds for sport, entertainment, promos, features and competitions.

The pitch package was an immediate hit with the Smooth Radio team;

GMG Radio Group PD John Simons says, ” Wise Buddah came up with a confident, contemporary sound for our new station image which sounds incredible. We can’t wait to hear them on the air from October 4th”

Wise Buddah’s Paul Plant added; “This was a fantastic brief for our team to get their teeth into. Smooth is all about the music and the play-list provided such a rich palette to draw upon.

We are really looking forward to working closely with Chris Stevens and his team to create something truly memorable and of great musical value”.

Listen out for Wise Buddah’s Smooth Radio jingles From 4th October on FM, DAB, Sky, Freesat, Freeview and www.smoothradio.co.uk.

Update Oct 6th – Wise Buddah have been kind enough to send us a short montage of the new package. JingleNews.com has been advised that there are at least another seven cuts to be added between now and the New Year.

If you have any questions you’d like Ryan to ask Ricky, drop him an email via his website

Here is a short email to give you a heads up on the next guest. The One and ONLY…Ricky Roo!

He is the the Imaging Guru of KDWB in Minneapolis/St. Paul but has been the brains behind many brilliantly branded stations including a bunch in Dallas and a little CHR I was the Night guy/Afternoon guy on 6 or 7 years ago! He also did time with our friend Chris Stevens at TM Studios. I plan to make this interview as technical as possible and very Production-centric. Focus will be placed on the theories and skills needed behind conceptualizing and producing a major station in a major market. Basically, Ricky, be prepared to come with it!

Good news for audio producers & radio people! A brand new production and on-air FX library is here: Gap Stuff, FX that kills the blanks – 2 must have CDs loaded with production tools for radio, TV, film, games and commercials.

Gap Stuff, design by Brandy
Download audio file (b_gapstuff.mp3)

The library is available in 2 flavours: Ruff (175 phatt elements) and Silk (175 smooth elements)

Gap Stuff is the result of a worldwide market survey among producers. It’s a toolbox of FX that are transparent, powerful, conveniently categorized and super functional.

The first reactions are very positive. Here’s what some of their clients have to say:

“There are so many sound effects libraries out there, but GAP STUFF is just stuff I can use. There’s no waste!”

“For years I’ve been working my way through CDs full of noise, just filtering out the few parts that were usable on my station. Now I can just pinpoint the sound I need without having to cross my fingers and hope for the best. It really is what I’ve been waiting for!”

Check the demos out at www.gapstuff.com.

GAP STUFF RUFF #01 means instant gratification for anyone who’s serious about sound. This collection of 175 phatt elements was designed with just one goal: to create the ultimate production toolbox. CHR & Hot AC radio producers will love it, yet its clean and sparkly sound works in many more environments.

GAP STUFF SILK #01 is the perfect match for Soft AC and News/Talk formats: a collection of sound design elements that combine class, transparency and positivity. It consists of 178 smooth elements with all the functionality you’d come to expect from a traditional FX library – yet bringing something new and different to the table. Lots of full blown radio-ready effects and even more stripped-to-the-bone elements provide a new perspective on on contemporary sound design.

Sandy Beech, the Managing Director of Music 4 in London, joins the show. Music 4 has grown to prominence in Radio Jingle production in London and across the U.K. We discuss his history in radio which took him from Leeds to London and a few places in between including a Pirate Ship! — sort of. He was VERY forthright with his knowledge and I think it was pretty informative. Obviously we went into Jingle Production and Jingles in general more than normal but there is still a lot to hear about radio in the UK and Sandy’s career.

Wise Buddah is delighted to unveil its new Wyvern package in all its glory, exclusively to JingleNews.com.

As reported last week, the package is one of five new packages that have been in production over the last three months for Orion Media.

There was a whole lot more to think about during the production process than simply creating five distinct packages for Orion Media (as if that’s not enough!) as Paul Plant from Wise Buddah Jingles explains;

“The Wyvern package (re sung for Beacon Shropshire) needed a softer sound than the BRMB and Mercia custom packages.

However, when all five stations are networked, each of the 10 main IDs was crafted to suit the mood and style of the corresponding BRMB/Mercia/Beacon West Midlands cuts.

In addition, to match the increased Gold output of each clock hour we were asked to provide one 80s Duran Duran-esque cut and one 90s dance cut”.

Wyvern 2010 Jingles | Download
Download audio file (wyvern10.mp3)

The package is due to air in January and is available for re-sings in 2010. There will also be a roll out of three new CHR packages in the New Year under the Contemporary Cuts II banner for client re sings.

This will be an amalgamation of the BRMB, Mercia and Metro Radio customs offering a mind boggling choice to stations of over 30 + cuts to choose from.

For more information about this or any other Wise Buddah package, contact Paul Plant on 00 44 (0) 207 307 1610 or e-mail paul@wisebuddah.com

Wyvern is copyright Wise Buddah Jingles & Music Imaging Ltd 2009.

For six weeks, Music 4′s MD Sandy Beech has been locked in the studio working on the forthcoming album from Chris Moyles.Chris Moyles – The Parody Album was released on Sony Records on the 23rd of November.

Sandy believes people are going to really enjoy this album.

“Chris and I have worked very hard to rework the most popular parody songs played out on his Radio 1 show and take them to a whole new level. Every track has been recorded from scratch and several tracks feature guest appearances from the likes of Ricky Wilson (Kaiser Chiefs), Calvin Harris and more. In addition, we’ve written a number of brand new tracks including the very catchy ‘It’s Never Gonna Snow At Christmas’ which should get everyone in a festive mood! Whether you are familiar with Chris’s parody songs or not, this album will make you laugh out loud”

Chris Moyles – The Parody Album was produced by Sandy Beech and Chris Moyles, recorded, mixed and mastered here at Music 4 Studios with additional recording undertaken at Abbey Road Studios.

For a full track listing and to buy the album, click here.

PS: look out for a very funny bonus ‘behind the scenes’ video which is available on iTunes.

European radio professionals don’t get the opportunity very often to look across the borders and discuss radio topics. One such event is the European NAB Conference. This year radio professionals should have gone to Athens, and exchanged thoughts in the shadow of the Acropolis. Should have… because this year there won’t be an NAB Conference in Europe. But Brandy don’t want to deny you their contribution to that radio party. You’ll even get to hear it as first!

Jingle Jungle 3 has arrived! The overview of the latest Brandy creations is now available on CD. Among other things, the Brandy giraffe brings you the AC packages from JOE fm and VivaCité, as well as The Vibe and 101, innovative sounds for CHR or alternative formats.Of course, an overview of the Brandy packages can also be found under Audio Design on this website, but it is convenient to also have them within reach on CD. Are you a programme director or imaging producer of a radio or television station? Then ask here for your copy of Jingle Jungle 3. Be sure to state your address and the station where you’re enjoying yourself every day.

Listen to the track below or on the Brandy website here and request a copy of the full demo CD.

This week, Pure Tonic added a brand new “Topical” category, featuring music beds covering seasonal activity and popular culture. In this months update, you will find music for Halloween, Bonfire Night, and the release of 007 The Quantum of Solace. This category will be updated regularly with time specific material, providing everything you need to keep topical on-air.

Plus, this November another category will be added: “Feel Good”. After extensive research and requests from our users, we felt there was a real need for accessible, bright, up-beat music beds. The “Feel Good” category will provide exactly this, and is scheduled to launch on November 3rd.
