Sylvain Rancourt from RDS stated ‘’What a great team! They know how to mix pleasure and work. The team and the quality of the work were outstanding. I felt I was part of the Studios Peak’s family. Two thumbs up for Studios Peak!!! ‘’

The 60 second video was also modified to provide 15 and 30 second elements which were on air on RDS. The demo is available on line on http://www.studiospeak.net/ click TV tab.

Kevin Brady and Darren Stenhouse from Kingdom FM flew to Dallas to oversee the recording of the song, which features fully live instrumentation including players from the Dallas Symphony Orchestra. Lead vocals are from Annagrey and D Mac. Over two days, all the layers of the song were recorded, while a film crew captured the action, as seen in the video.

There are a number of shorter edits, including some featuring vocalists from the Fife area. The radio mixes end with the station name, attached is an example.

TM’s Creative Director Chris Stevens commented “In a world where jingles are generally getting shorter and shorter, it was great to be able to work on such a complex and exciting project as this. Greg Clancy took Kevin and Darren’s vision and brought it to life, thanks to a combination of talented musicians and wonderful singers.”

JAM has written and produced more station identification jingles for legendary stations than any other company. WCBS, WLS, KOST 103.5, and KVIL are just among the many.

JAM has created many custom jingles for KVIL over the years. When we went to take a look at Ron Chapman’s top-rated morning show on September 1, 1993 the “Celebrate” package was in use. This video was part of a much longer presentation that was shown in our booth at the 1993 NAB radio convention.

Dallas – November 2009 marks the 35th anniversary of JAM Creative Productions, Inc. JAM has specialized in making ID jingles for radio stations and music for advertising since its inception, and has operated under its original name and ownership longer than any other company of its type in the history of broadcasting.

Jonathan Wolfert and his wife Mary Lyn founded the company in 1974 (the name JAM is an acronym for “Jon and Mary Lyn”). Although they started by working out their apartment, the business quickly grew into a suite of offices, then a studio, and ultimately a custom building with two spacious recording studios. During the past 35 years of JAM jingles have been used by legendary stations around the world.

Check out the full 35 Anniversary Feature on JAM’s website at www.jingles.com.

As well as providing jingles for a myriad of radio stations around the world, across all formats, JAM has also ventured into jingle producing for television. In November of 1990, JAM produced a set of customized jingles for the music video cable network VH1. The idea somehow sprung from integrating music videos and station ID. Performers on the video were made to lip-sync to the JAM jingles.

Watch VH1 Station IDs using their custom JAM Jingles below

Thanks to its global partners, JAM’s international presence is still on up until today. S2Blue is the representative for the jingle company as well as PAMS in the UK and Eire. In the last few months we have resung JAM packages for UK stations Fresh & Wayland Radio. We have also resung some classic PAMS cuts for Radio 2’s Johnnie Walker and even recorded some PAMS jingles at Abbey Road’s Studio 2 for Manx Radio’s ‘Carnaby Street’ Show (more information at: http://www.s2blue.com/Showcase-Imaging-PAMS.aspx)

La Viva is the 4th custom package we produced for VivaCité in Belgium. The aim was to create a new sound for the French radio omarket that was both contemporary and warm. 16 brand new cuts give the station a new image with lots of ‘French flair’. A massive amount of mixouts provide the DJ’s with a complete toolset for their every need.

Viva La Viva Demo
Download audio file (Brandy_Demo_La_Viva.mp3)

For the last decade we’ve been working very closely with Radio 2 in Belgium, and the latest fruit of our intense cooperation is Close 2 You volume 3. It consists of Top of Hour cuts for every daypart, dayparted weekend Top of Hours, a ToH that ran during the summer and a few transition cuts that expand the ‘Close 2 You’ jingle family even further. Again, it was produced with a big vocal group and lots of live instruments, among which a full strings and brass section. It’s the second update for Radio 2, which currently holds a staggering 32% marketshare and reaches about 1.5 million listeners each and every day!

Close 2 You Volume 3
Download audio file (Brandy_Demo_Close_2_You_3.mp3)

We’ve also adapted some of cuts of Close 2 You volumes 1 & 2 for Boom FM in Québec, Canada. For the first time the Close 2 You cuts get a French twist! The station was looking for jingles that felt like they were made today but sounded very rich and fitted perfectly with their 60’s/70’s oriented oldies format. We composed a new logo, rearranged the jingles with their baseline, and sought out a specific vocal group. There are even some seasonal cuts for Christmas!

Lisa Wheeler’s radiouseonly.com shares her radio compilation collection with the world.

We’re always glad to see orange on the tower, that means victory,

Austin Municipal Airport is buzzing with activity,

The K-N-O-W is a modern sound,

Of Austin, Austin, that’s my hometown

If you love Austin and you really love radio, it’s hard not to get just a bit choked up when you hear “Austin My Home Town,” a 1961 vinyl recording made for Austin’s KNOW 1490 radio station.

The recording is on a 45, and it might never have reached eardrums again if not for Lisa Wheeler. Wheeler started a Web site to share her collection of records put out by radio stations across the country called radiouseonly.com. The project began two years ago when Wheeler, who used to work in radio, began collecting.

It was a common practice for many years (which continues today in the CD/MP3 era) for radio stations to put out novelty records as well as collections of music by local bands with chatter by DJs.

What started as a way for Wheeler to list the the contents of her albums has grown: She started a blog on the site that includes clips from records as well as interviews with DJs and musicians. We spoke to Wheeler about her site.

What was your background in radio?

My first radio job was changing reel-to-reel tapes at a “beautiful music” station in Pueblo, Colo., in 1980 — I was 19. From there I did time at stations in Colorado Springs, Amarillo, Midland-Odessa and Austin (KLBJ-AM from 1991-1994).

How did you first hear about these kinds of radio compilations?

Throughout my high school years, I would spend my summers with my grandparents in Dallas. Back then I religiously listened to KZEW-FM. One summer, while shopping for albums, I found a KZEW LP, and picked it up for my record collection. Ironically, I completely forgot about the record until about two years ago, when I rediscovered it — that’s when I decided to start the Web site. It got me wondering just how many radio station compilations were out there.

I’ve always been a record collector. After rediscovering the KZEW LP, I started collecting radio station compilations. Before too long I had about 100. I began to search for more information, on the Internet, about these albums — and I found nothing. So I decided to create my own online collector’s resource.

How did you build the site, and what skills did you learn to put up audio samples from your collection?

I credit quite a bit of the design of this site to my husband, Bryan. We have quite a creative partnership. I put together the layout concept, and he designed all of the logos. We used Adobe Dreamweaver for the HTML, Adobe Illustrator to create the graphic elements and Adobe Photoshop for the other images. To capture the audio for the 45 pages, I dub off the vinyl through Roxio’s CD Spin Doctor and then convert that into an MP3 in Apple’s iTunes.

Has the Internet helped you expand your collection? Do you troll eBay for these kinds of recordings?

We are really blessed to have so many used record stores in Austin. I’m all for buying local, so I’m usually trolling around Friends of Sound or End of an Ear on any given Saturday. Plus the Austin Record Convention is a must for anyone looking for anything ever recorded on vinyl. At the last show, I scored 14 never-before-seen radio compilations. It’s a fabulous local resource.

After I found as many as I could around town, I started searching on eBay. Now I have a little over 400 in my collection. Last year, I decided to expand the site to include 45s put out by radio stations, so that’s been a lot of fun discovering and collecting those.

What makes a good radio compilation?

I’m incredibly nostalgic. A good comp to me is something that’s somewhat of a time capsule of what radio once was — musically and visually. Quite a few of these show pictures of disc jockeys in wide-lapel suits and muttonchops of the era. And then there are the pictures of the audio boards and reel-to-reel players and cart machines that are almost all obsolete now.

Do radio stations still make a habit of putting out recordings like this on CD or online or has the practice died out?

Radio comps are still incredibly popular: Look at the success of the “KGSR Broadcasts” CDs!

Who are your readers and what kinds of things have they shared with you?

When I first started the site, two years ago, I heard mainly from record collectors, folks who had never heard of these discs and were surprised to find so many. Then when word got out, I started to hear from the disc jockeys, and the band members who appear on these records. It got me thinking, what ever happened to them? So I started a blog this year where I interview the former DJs of these stations and the bands who were a part of these music compilations.

His signature voice was perceived as being both ominous and sonorous. Due to the sheer volume of trailer voiceovers LaFontaine recorded, he became identified with the phrase “in a world…”, which has been used in movie trailers so frequently that it has become a cliché. He also parodied this cliché several times, more recently in a commercial for GEICO insurance.

LaFontaine was admitted to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, California with a blood clot in his lungs on August 22, 2008, and was reported as being in critical condition the following Tuesday. His family made a public appeal on the Mediabistro.com site. Don died September 1, 2008 following complications from pneumothorax.

Music 4 have added a lot of packages to their site over the last week. The latest one is a brand new custom package for The Ray Foley Show on Today FM in Ireland.

Today FM is Ireland’s national commercial station and Ray Foley is the stations youngest DJ presenting the award winning lunchtime show.

It’s no secret that Ray is a fan of our Chris Moyles jingles and our brief was to create a theme and idents that captured the spirt of the Moyles jingles without being a straight copy of them.

The inspiration came from the cheesy sound of “High School Musical”

The jingles are all built around 1 main theme and are not available for syndication in the UK or Ireland, but you can listen to them here.

In other Music 4 related news, Music 4 is a patron of The Radio Academy, so we were delighted to help out with the session hosted by Scott Solder where a fictitious radio DJ was created (Breezy Brian At Breakfast on Indigo 02..FM). Listen to the fun package here.

Chris Stevens mixed Graham’s lines into the existing jingle he uses in the mornings on TFM Radio and you can see the result below!

The TV ad which will air until the end of March includes a 50 strong gospel choir from local gospel church, Kings Choir who are based in Norton. The ad also contains 200 extras that were selected by entering via www.tfmradio.com

Chris Stevens said “We’ve had a lot of fun with TFM Radio over the last couple of years, and it was great fun working with Chris Rick and his team on this. And credit where it’s due… Graham Mack’s pretty good at singing!”

Gospel jingles from JonesTM are on a number of Bauer stations, including Key 103, Radio Aire, Hallam FM and Viking FM. Citybeat, The Bay and Heart 106.2 London have also recently started running gospel jingles from JonesTM.

IQ Beats is proud to announce our latest custom music-imaging package for LBC, our third in a longstanding relationship with Executive Producer Chris Lowrie and the first under the ownership of Global Radio. LBC is London’s premier News/Talk station on 97.3 FM and across the UK on DAB digital radio.

Composers Patrick Napper and Steven Scalfati worked closely with Programme Director Jonathan Richards and Mr. Lowrie to produce a package bringing together a contemporary, authoritative and confident sound to reflect LBC as a ‘news talk’ station and live orchestrations, using strings and horns, to reflect the emotion of real and honest conservations. It is a winning combination not previously found in any other package and is designed to confirm London’s premier talk radio station as bold, modern, confident and proud.

The package is a true achievement and is the culmination of 4 months of focused composition, communication, coordination, scheduling, production, recording, editing and mixing made possible by the talent of Steven and Patrick, the clear vision laid out by Jonathan and Chris at LBC, and the 80 other persons instrumentally involved in the package.

Chris Lowrie had this to say:

We are delighted with this exciting new sound for LBC 97.3, making us stand out from the rest of the market. It’s fresh and distinctive and reflects LBC as the best talk station in London.

Chris Lowrie, Executive Producer, LBC 97.3 FM

The package is diverse with themes for: Daytime, Nighttime, Top of Hour, Travel, Breakfast, and 911 News. In addition, there is an absolutely majestic Main Theme as well as a huge workpart kit of atmospheres and Logo ID’s.

The NAB European Radio Conference 2007 in Barcelona, Spain maybe have ended already but revolution of branding radio stations around the world has just been sparked. The three-day conference that started in November 4 to 6, 2007 was a bag full of great insights on radio programming, sales, marketing and management.

A year ago, the European NAB was blown away by a surprise greeting-slash-how-to video sent by no less than the Prod God himself. Yes, the Prod God has finally spoken. Dave Foxx, Creative Services Director of Clear Channel’s Z100 in New York, has unveiled his production and imaging secrets.

The video was shown to a limited number of people only. Surprisingly, the Prod God himself created his very first YouTube account, or did he, two months ago and posted a video about how he made Z100 the king of radio branding. You may not be one of those few unlucky ones who just watched this video, but it is still worth the watch.

In this 10:33 video, Dave Foxx revealed how his beatmixes and power intros helped him etched the Z100 logo onto the minds of the listeners. Dave Foxx also talked about how to create effective USP or unique selling point, the use of non conventional production tricks like putting a silence before stressing a point and using psychological methods to catch the listener’s attention and focus on the message of a promo.

In this video, you will also get to know how jingles came to life once again in Z100. Dave Foxx mentioned about his friendship with Jon Wolfert of Jam Creative Productions and how Jam jingles propelled the station’s popularity during its first fifteen years. Surprisingly, it was Ja Rule that poked Dave Foxx and the rest of the Z100 crew to bring back jingles on Z100 after four years of on air hibernation. And this is when ReelWorld got the task of creating the new generation Z100 jingle IDs.

Press play right now, these ten minute video could mean a lifetime success for your station. Big thanks to Dave Foxx for sharing this terrifically informative video material.
