FM1 – Switz-ing it up with a new PURE Jingles package

FM1 (for non-Swiss people: the pronunciation sounds like FM ‘ice’) browsed through the PURE JingleBox and came up with a unique combination of cuts to reflect their station’s image. With well over 350 unique elements to choose from without having to pay for custom-made cuts, the number of possibilities to find a very specific sound for FM1 was staggering*.

The FM1 team was pushing the PURE Jingles producers from the word ‘go’ to take the vocal production a couple of steps further from what they had heard in Hot AC jingles before. The music of the final package is skewed towards guitar driven pop, a genre that usually doesn’t lend itself well to more dance-like vocal editing. Thanks to the FM1 team insisting on integrating more vocal FX, there is a huge difference between the versions that the PURE Jingles producers initially came up with and the final cuts that will be showcased on air.

Within the package, FM1 also wanted to switch things up a bit by having the end logo sung by a solo vocal on occasion. The result is a package that gives Hot AC imaging a different face.

* If our mathskills haven’t completely deserted us since high school, you’d be able to make quite a lot of unique combinations. As a matter of fact, if you look online (who does sums on calculators anymore…) and tried to figure out how many combinations were possible, the number you come up with is… INFINITY.

Like the FM1 team told PURE Jingles: “The amount of material on offer in the JingleBox is gigantic. We had to put in a LOT of time to pick out the right cuts. But we feel that this is a very important phase in the production to get the maximum result from the PURE JingleBox.”

Mix N Match – Vol. 2 Hot AC package

One year after its launch the Mix N Match jingle package has been considerably extended.

A remarkable update, because you can’t narrow it down to a single format – just like the radio station the jingle package was produced for.

MNM is not AC, not Hot AC, not CHR… The station’s offering is extremely broad and varies between all of them.

So for its styling, MNM opted for a special concept: a jingle-update with 5 new basic cuts for AC or Hot AC, and remixed versions for programmes with a CHR-flavour. Each cut comes with all possible mix-outs.

Pushing the envelope – BBC Radio 1′s collab with PURE Jingles

BBC Radio 1 sets trends for radio brands all over the world. It has a reputation for breaking artists, hosts some of Brittains biggest DJs and is usually the first major station on the planet to dive into trendsetting music styles. And now that Radio 1 has turned to PURE Jingles to help them with their new IDs, the Dutch company is thrilled to be associated with the station.

Radio 1 gave PURE Jingles the challenge to come up with imaging that has a strong musical identity and, at the same time, can be placed over existing song intros to create flow.

-Ings
PURE’s composers first worked on longer tracks in all different kinds of music styles. Those tracks were turned over to a separate producer who wouldn’t be afraid to ‘kill any darlings’ and chop some 40 second pieces of music into 5 second ones. In the later stages of production, the team went to town on EQ-ing, distorting, crunching, vocoding, editing (and lots of other -ings!) the station’s voiceovers.

21 Cuts
So what does Radio 1 have to show for all the work? An intitial batch of 21 cuts that gets updated every 3 months, with plenty more production that tries to push the envelope!

Radio West Launches New Jingle Package from The Rocketeers

RTV West not only has the music and programming on Radio West refreshed, even the jingle package has been completely renewed.

And this has been thoroughly done. A new audio logo, a new choir, all instruments played live, including strings by the Czech National Symphony Orchestra. The package consists of 10 main themes with 193 mixouts (cuts). The package is composed and produced by The Rocketeers.

Stas Swaczyna, The Rocketeers: “Station Manager Renzo Veenstra was looking for real musical jingles. We did it by recording live instruments with a fresh and contemporary pop sound, which is not standard for jingles these days. Radio West is now actually one of the only ones in the Netherlands that air this type of production.”

Indika FM in Indonesia has recently started to air a resing of IQ Beats’ Capital FM jingle package. They picked a selection of cuts from the package which can be heard in the montage below.

Indika is the second Indonesian station to pick up the popular Capital package, following in Hard Rock FM’s footsteps. Other stations to have picked up the Capital package over the past two-and-a-half years include Channel 4 in Dubai, FM104 in Ireland and WZPL in Indianapolis to name a few aswell as other stations in the Hit Music Network – Red Dragon FM, Leicester Sound, Ram FM and Trent FM with Mercury FM airing an instrumental version of the package.

Brandy gets Sunny in Jordan

Another major radio station finds its way to Brandy. Sunny 105.1 (Jordan) has chosen the good vibes of Love It, originally produced for the Belgian VRT’s hit station Donna.

Sunny put together its own selection from the Love It packages and the Brandy team added a tight international female vocal sound. They picked up cuts 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 from the Love It – Vol 1 package.

The complete batch of ID’s, ramps and shotguns will keep the producers busy while keeping the listeners engaged.

Wise Buddah helps Orion brand Free Radio

Free Radio launched in the UK on Monday March 26 2012. The network, owned and operated by Orion Media, resulted in the rebranding of four stations in the West Midlands of England – BRMB, Beacon, Mercia and Wyvern.

On 9 January 2012, Orion announced that it would rebrand its four West Midlands stations as Free Radio from March 2012 onwards. The former on-air station brands were phased out on Wednesday 21 March 2012 in preparation for the rebrand, which took place on Monday 26th March 2012 at 7pm. The first voice on the rebranded stations was Nick Wall, a listener from Market Drayton.

Wise Buddah won the pitch to produce the new jingle imaging package for Free Radio. 11 main themes in a variet of styles form the basis of the new package which is now heard on all 4 Free Radio stations. Novaz Creates Afternoon Show Jingles for A Marconi Awardee

Novaz Audio recently completed a package of 5 cuts for ‘Van Inkel in the Afternoon’.

Jeroen van Inkel has been Holland’s most respected and influential DJ’s for quite some time. He worked at stations like: Radio Veronica, Veronica FM, Yorin FM, Radio 538 and now does the popular drive time show on Dutch Q-Music.

Jeroen won a Marconi Award for excellence in radio last year. In the 90’s he used to work with some of the great JAM packages at Radio Veronica.

Exclusively for his show, Jeroen asked Novaz Audio to create something with the musicality and feel of classic top40 jingles, with a modern edge. It’s personality jingles 2.0!

The company sang most of the lyrics in Dutch: Van Inkel in de middag, which means: Van Inkel in the afternoon.

NOVAZ is currently working on a new site that will feature a completely jingle-devoted website for NOVAZ AUDIO IMAGING. First demo CD about to come out later this year.

PURE Jingles’ 9285 kilometer leap to U Radio – Hong Kong

Digital Audio Broadcasting has been tried and tested in most European countries. So it might come as a surprise that it has taken such a long time for a country like China to give it a go. At the start of 2012, PURE Jingles is there at the launch of DAB in Hong Kong, imaging U Radio.

U Radio is geared towards a Mandarin speaking audience. Through the Internet and apps, people outside of China can tune-in as well.

The station’s management says: “U Radio wants to build an image that it is international, creative and energetic, so we’ve ventured out of Hong Kong to search for a jingle production partner. Out of many choices, we believe that PURE Jingles can help us project that image.”

Variety
U Radio chose a broad variety of cuts from the PURE JingleBox – ranging from Jazz to Dance. Their logo was sung in neutral English by PURE Jingles’ European singers.

Brandy Welcomes Souvenirs Garantis

Brandy is feeling quite at home in Canada. Souvenirs Garantis, the market leader in Québec, wants to keep on seducing its listeners with a unique sound, and found it at Brandy.

Programme director Jack Roy: “Our ageing demographic is evolving and we have to stay on top of it. Our musical format is becoming younger and our imaging has to go along”. Souvenirs Garantis was looking for a station sound that matched their classic hits format, yet gave the station a unique feel. That’s what they found in the La Viva package.

Multi-tasking is a challenge in live radio. Delivering show content, interacting with listeners, operating multiple faders, pressing hot keys, searching for elements, and still sounding spontaneous – all at the same time! Two jocks of Dutch CHR station 3FM were looking for a way to make their lives easier.

The First BRANDY Jingle Package in Africa

K-FM brings Brandy’s most popular jingle package to the African continent. The station wants its listeners to taste from a fresh musical approach and accurate news reporting. K-FM is Rwanda’s newest radio station and broadcasts from Kigali. It’s owned by the Nation Media Group, which publishes several newspapers and operates both radio and TV stations in several African countries.

For its imaging K-FM selected tracks from the The Kick packages. The station’s name and slogan have been smoothly integrated into the tracks so it sounds totally custom made for K-FM.

ABOUT THE KICK

The Kick was originally produced for ONEfm in Switzerland. The package has since started an international career: apart from the adaptation for Metropolys (France). it’s also been reworked for City Music (Belgium) and Glow FM (the Netherlands).

The Kick consists of 2 volumes and comes with dozens of mix outs and tools that help radio DJs to create the perfect on-air flow.

991 QIK turns to ReelWorld ONE

New for 2012, ReelWorld ONE Country is now officially airing in Jacksonville! 99.1 WQIK rebranded as 991 QIK and is now airing jingles from Reelworld using the WCTO logo. The station, which plays a country format is located in Jacksonville, FL and has never aired jingles… until now!

The station is now Jacksonvilles “hit kicker” thanks to these outstanding jingles! As with usual ReelWorld packages, this consists of shotguns, a morning show cut, basic ID’s, a top of hour cut, and a traffic instrumental bed. Wise Choice for Key 103

Last week Bauer Media’s Key 103 in Manchester began airing a brand new imaging package produced by London’s Wise Buddah. The new package includes jingles, station imaging and power intros with an agreement for ongoing updates on a regular basis.

Wise Buddah have previously worked with 4 of the 9 Bauer ‘Big City’ network stations; namely Viking FM, Metro Radio, Radio Aire and Hallam FM. They can now add Key 103 to the growing list.

Key 103 station director Gary Stein said: “Manchester is a big, noisy marketplace. We wanted to create a sound for the radio station that stands out from the crowd, that is contemporary and that fits with our music policy and playlist. What we liked about Wise Buddah was that they worked really closely with us to get the sound that we wanted, maintaining our sonic logo but modernizing it and making it fit with the hits that we play. The ongoing agreement works well for us because it means that the imaging and jingles can adapt as we change our playlist. Together we’ve created something that will evolve over time.”

Wise Buddah’s Paul Plant added: “Some companies produce jingles that sound like jingles, which is fine in certain circumstances but we encourage our writers to produce imaging that sounds like the music being played on the station. This fitted perfectly with what Key 103 were after.”

KMFM Extra goes Ignite

KMFM Extra is a DAB radio station broadcasting to Kent and is part of the KMFM group of radio stations.

The station offers a “cutting edge alternative” to KMFM which will play everything from Girls Aloud to Kanye West. The station broadcasts from the Medway studios and features non-stop music, apart from commercials and the hourly news bulletins containing local and entertainment news.

In 2012 Ignite Jingles produced a package of 4 themes for the station. The 4 themes are designed to work as hour openers with a stack of out-of-break and shotgun mixes. Listen to a montage below or the cuts in the clear at ignitejingles.com.

Radio Paloma 2012 AC Jingles

Behind the Skala FM 2012 Jingles

Morten Petersen, Imaging Director of Skala FM Denmark, has gotten in touch with us to say how happy he is with his station’s new jingles from Wise Buddah. It was a long process as you’ll read below, but it was all worth the effort in the end.

“For more than one and a half years, Skala FM’s new sound has been in the making. It may seem like a long time, but the process of making the right decision was very important for us. We knew roughly what we wanted, but how did it fit into our core-listeners mind? Would our thoughts and desires repel or attract them?

The process started with listening to jingles from all over the world in order to gather the elements that best suited for us and then presenting it in focus groups throughout the winter of 2010. More than 100 listeners were invited. They gave their opinion about jingles and imaging, and it turned out to be beneficial for the station.

We knew some things from the previous package that worked well for our station should be integrated into our new package. (I think there are very few stations that are lucky to have listeners sing the top of hour when they see a logo for the station, or meet one of the DJs somewhere.)

Once all the lessons learned from the focus groups were brought to the table, we made a 15-page brief to Wise Buddah who produced package. The jingles, the instruments and the style were explained down to the smallest detail so it was easy and understandable to work with.

After 6 months we finished composing the package, so we headed out to a studio in Denmark, far out in the country to do the vocal session. After 3 days of singing and fun with the company of good friends we were ready to head back to the studio in London to mix the package.

The project may seem like it took a very long time, but the more I think of the way we did it, the more convinced I am we did the right thing. One thing is to call a jingle-company and order a new jingle package, another thing is to actually work with the composer and get him to understand our thoughts.

To work with such dedicated people just makes the process so much easier.

Everytime I listen to my jingles I get a feeling of ‘we’ve hit the exact 2012-sound for our station’. There´s nothing left to chance. And I´m sure the sound will take us onto the next level imaging-wise.”

Wise Buddah welcomes back Skala FM…

In 2012 Skala FM returned to Wise Buddah for a brand new custom package. Consisting of 11 Main IDs, 3 TOHs, a Morning Show theme and new Information elements.

The vocals are recorded in Denmark, resulting in a fun project for everyone.
